View Full Version : I got OSX running on my PC hardware....yay!!!
Well i don't know if this is in the correct section or not but i'll post it here anyway.
So i got OSX running on my PC and it fucking hammers my macbook. PC specs are
Intel dualcore 2.8ghz overclocked to 3.2ghz
Abit motherboard
2gb corsair ram
2 x 17" samsung monitors although only 1 is working under OSX
NVidia 6600GT graphics card
currently only onboard audio is working though
Should be a wicked DAW. I'm heaps excited:D

how stable is it running?
I haven't had any problems with it yet. Gonna install a few more apps and test it out a bit and then i'm gonna try and get dual boot happening.
BTW don't go anywhere near Vista at the moment. It's terrible. Very security conscious and needs a decent machine to run well. Just some info for anyone who was thinking of upgrading.

yeha i'll wait a few months, mabe upgrade first
but i found it amusing to read a blog a month or so ago when a mac user dual-booted vista and claimed it booted and responded faster on his mac pro than osx did
That's interesting.
I have had it running on the same hardware mentioned above and it ran well. Not as good as XP though. On my macbook it ran like shit but i think that's just because it has an integrated graphics card which is crap. I really can't stand that evertime you want to do something in Vista it asks are you sure you want to do this.
Anyway check this (http://www.apple.com/getamac/) out and watch the security vid
Forgot to add. It's hilarious

the new macs are x86 hardware, so how is it illegal?
i would like to try this though
My work gave me a new macbook and i needed more HD space so i have formatted my hackintosh. Never seen OSX run so fast in my life though. Am now running Windows Vista and i really regret upgrading (or should i say downgrading LOL) When i can be bothered i will be switching back to XP.
Anyone checked out the new imacs yet? They look sweet as:D
BTW Parallels is amazing......very ram hungry though. Well worth checking out if you want Windows running on your mac. It's awesome to be able to have both OS's running at once

Well done...
I'm still having problems after formatting... soon as I get there its a copy of Logic 7 Pro for me ;)
Which version JaS install did you use?
I had to change the heat sync on my pc which is a dual core 2.8ghz. Now she idles @ 26 degrees. Crazy huh
I used JAS 10.4.8 and it installed fine. Lots to do afterwards to get everything working tho.

I have:
iMac 5.1
Intel 2 Core Duo
2 GHz
1 GB RAM
And I am running Windows XP SP2 using Boot Camp as a second drive. Works fine. Total Opposite of "Seb7".:D
Ye i got bootcamp on my macbook. Runs really well. I need a bigger HD though:( It's hard to figure out how much drive space to allocate to each OS.

got JAS 10.4.9 working
dual monitor - though only because i'm using an LCD on the DVI output - OSX can't see a CRT behind a DVI-VGA converter
wireless NIC not working, so i've ordered one that should be compatible
some how screwed up the installation of NTFS-3G, so now i can no longer mount/use NTFS drives, but no matter, i can just use windows to copy files i need across to the HFS+ drives
EDIT: system specs for those who'd like to know
Pentium 4 640 (3.2ghz)
Asus P5LD2 motherboard - All four SATA channels working, Optical drive IDE channels working, however the secondary IDE channel (for hard drives) won't work, haven't tried onboard audio, though OS X appears to pick up the built in ethernet
2 GB DDR2 Ram (dual channel)
nV 6600 256Mb GPU
MBox 2 Pro Audio Interface
320Gb HDD for WinXP
250Gb HDD for OSX
80GB HDD for audio work
How's it all running for you Stick? I can't believe how fast the OS runs on PC hardware. When i had mine running it shit all over my intel macbook for speed.

it's running pretty damn well, though i still need to buy logic and do have a couple of problems
OS X detects my new wireless card as native airport (same chipset as airport) but it doesn't "see" my network - where as the windows side does
also i can't get my NTFS drive to mount at all for some reason.
other than that it's running fine, pro tools, reason adapted, live lite, all running fine
I had to mess around in terminal to get it to see my network. The weird thing is, i apparently had no mac address after but it worked. I had to download and install some kernal extensions first though. Safari was lightning quick
