I always wondering, how Proffesional Producents make their tracks. You have a track in your mind, and you try to create it in real? Or you are favourite synth, and sounds, and you try to find some nice melody or sound ?? I ask couse I'am a beginner in producing, and I have so many tracks in my head, so many remixes... but I can't create these sounds...

I think it is a mixture of all of the above and more - right now I have nearly 400 incomplete tracks on pc - I just play, play and play some more - but at any given point I only have 20 maybe that really stand out - either the synth stands out, the melody stands out or I used a new technique that I love listening to over and over. Then it all amalagamates into a track one day when I have the real inspiration - which usually comes from a great melody that I have in my head - I take elements of each of my incomplete tracks and add those that I feel work together - e' voila - a song has been born!

Just keep practicing and SAVE EVERYTHING YOU DO! You can come back to it later and use it in tracks you hadnt even thought of when you originally created it!

my tracks always get born from a new synth or sample library or technique or idea in my head.

I use to make a track in one day and get bored and move on but know i have realized it doesn't work for me like that now. I'll never get a track released if i spend a bit of time on it. I now concentrate on single tracks for weeks and months to perfect every little minute detail making it a work of art!! :) But i like taking my time, because when i do that, i get ideas in my head and come back to it. Also when i'm at work doing boring work, i try and think of melodies in my head, new vocals and many other things all the time, never waste a time of emptiness

heres how i do it, i first sit with a pen and piece of paper and write out the structure of my song first  then i switch on my computer:eek:  then i do my rhthm traxxx first (drums & bass) then others such as melody, vocal etc its worked for me so far, but writing your plan (stucture) on paper first then programing it into ur sequencer u'll have a clear focus were the dynamic points are in your song (such as intro, main part leadin to outro etc.) Just food for thought , otherwise if u dont like what i said just forget about it :(

I always start with the drums & percussive elements first as they are the foundation of the track. From there i program the bass & synths.

I'm finding that i'm starting alot of projects lately but not finishing them. I think i need to take a leaf out of your book kaya and spend time perfecting 1 tune at a time. Might be a good i dea to remove all my tracks from my computer except 1 and force myself to work on that.

There are pros and cons to doing that - pro being Kayas way which works for him - I tend to like having many tracks sitting around that I can come back to at a later stage and take inspiration from. I tend to take the best of both those worlds - I tell myself I am going to finish one track and one track only over the next few weeks - then I concentrate only on that one - but it doesnt mean that you cant go back to previous songs for inspiration or ideas.

But that just works for me - as we can see from this post, everyone works differently and its what you feel comfortable with at the end of the day. But you have to tell yourself that you will complete just one track - by having so many tracks unfinished, I fell into the trap of not making my tracks flow properly at one stage because I was taking too many elements of all of my tracks - thats the con to using my method!

I see your point Stealth. I also like being able to take elements from different tunes that i have made but all i seem to do is build another half a tune and then move on. I need to find a method that works for me. Perhaps a deadline or something like that???

everyone is right in their own way.

I just got angry that i had been producing for a while and had no songs to show so i know tell myself "one at a time". Of course i still do side things here and there but always come back to what i'm working on.

Very true. It's all about what works for each person. I just need to find a way to keep my concentration on 1 tune at a time and completing it. I would love to hear how Frank goes about making a new track.

yeah me too.

I read a book on mixing and it always talkied about different methods but at the end of the day, they said if it sounds good, it doesn't matter how u do it.
